What Programme Formats use Multi-Camera Production

Live Sports
This is Chelsea v Liverpool in the capital one cup - Live Sports
Piratical Reason
- It shows everything that is going on, on the pitch with different types of angles, this helps with showing different angles of when the goal goes into the back of the net shown at 22:03, 22:24 and 22:29
- because this is live, it cannot be filmed more than once. So using multi-camera gets every angle and captures everything that is going on such as goals and the player who scored this helps for simultaneous recording of the action because their is multiple cameras focusing on different things so they do not miss anything during the match show at 1:02:04, 1:02:30 - 1:02:48 shows the same goal but from different angles
- Because the pitch is so big players will be in different areas so multi-camera allows different angles of the players when they are running around and allows the camera to focus on certain players while the other cameras focus on someone else this is good for the constraints of the location

Aesthetic Reason
- In football their is a lot of emotion going on, so for a aesthetic reason they would show close ups of the players faces of an event in the game such as a celebration for scoring or when they concede a goal the emotion will be shown on the players face show at 22:10 this communicates the meaning of the goal to the viewer by the joys of celebration or the upset of conceding.
- When you are in the crowd you don't get to see a close up of the players because they look tiny when you are in the crowd but when watching it on TV you get shots of the players close up so it makes you feel like the audience at home are more interactive with the game because you can see the players closer up starting from 25:55 - 26:02 this maintains viewer interest because you can see the player much for closer than what you would see at the actual game.
Game Shows

February 18th 2014 Family Feud Episode- As Live Studio

This was filmed before going onto TV not shown live
Practical Reason
- There are 2 family's and a presenter so they need cameras on all 3 the whole time. one camera could not do this and if they did do this it would be boring because it would only be from one angle 0:31 shows Steve the presenter on one camera, one family at 0:27 on another camera and the other family on the third camera at 0:33
- Because its a kind of quiz game it has to be shot 'as live' so they can get the actions and answers, if it was not like this it could be like cheating because they would have to stop the camera and move around a lot which would take much longer rather than there being multiple cameras around which is why there is Simultaneous recording coverage of action such as when he is walking to the other family at 9:18 than the camera cuts to a more of a close up at 9:23 so you can see them better, this stops their being one camera which has to move around a lot just to get a close up of the family

Aesthetic Reason
- Because their are more cameras they can focus on individuals and their facial expression which allow the viewers to see the emotions in the show rather than having one camera fixed in one place showing the show this helps communicating the meaning to the viewer because if they are wrong they wont be happy but if they get it right they will be happy 1:37 - 2:38 all show close ups of the family talking
- When the family has to answer, you want to see the camera on them which is why multi-camera is important because without multi-camera you wouldn't be able to see that properly and that would ruin the experience for the people watching it at home which is why it is maintaining viewer interest which is shown at 4:29 and at 4:35

Chat Show
James Cordon on Michael McIntyre chat show + 'Send to all' & 'Phone swap' - Studio

Practical Reason

- Two people on the set, one camera for each person and one camera for the whole stage which allows you to feel like you are there instead of one camera giving you just one shot from a distance keeping coverage of action show at 0:15 - 0:27 as you can see the cameras switch a lot it switches from Michael to James Cordon than it also changes to a different angle of James than another camera shows us both of them on one camera
- Its much more smoother when the camera isn't moving everywhere, when you have multiple cameras you can swiftly cut to the next person instead of the single camera being in a fixed position this is why simultaneous recording coverage is helpful which is also shown at 3:09 - 3:14 during this period you can see that the camera swiftly cuts three times without having to move, it cuts as soon as they speak allowing the audience to understand what is going on much more better if the camera kept moving backwards and forwards where that would get irritating.

Aesthetic Reason
- You can see the person talking and see their facial expression up close so it makes you feel like your in the crowd because you get different types of shots maintaining the viewers interest show at 4:43 where you see close ups of James Cordon and Michael McIntyre laughing, this makes you feel more involved because you can see their facial expressions up close where as if you was in the audience you wouldn't really get to see their facial expressions up close like you would when you are watching it on the TV, this allows the viewers to feel closer to the show because they get to see every bit of detail that is going on in the show.
- The crowd can join in by laughing at some of the jokes they make meaning it could lighten the mood for people at home if they thought the joke was a bit harsh, the laughter will help clear it up as a joke this helps communicating meaning to the viewers such as at 1:25 where the crowd begin laughing because it is funny, this helps the audience understand that its a joke and they can laugh about it at home without feeling bad.

Concert
Eminem & Rihanna - Live at the concert for valor 2014 (Full performance HD) - Live

Practical reason

- By the amount of people at the concert it is clear it is a rather large area so you would need multiple cameras to catch everything that is going on, which would be really hard for the camera crew with only one camera because you have multiple people on stage moving around and also the crowd so it would be hard to get the performance because the camera would be in a bad position so they have separate cameras on each section to keep simultaneous recording coverage which is show at 0:01 where you can see that there are thousands of people standing their watching, and to get close ups of each thing going on you need multi-cameras everywhere to be recording at the same time to capture everything that is going on such as at 0:09 you see Rihanna walking, this is much more clearer in the second shot than the first one, this is why it is important to have simultaneous recording coverage because you get to see every single bit of detail from different angles which is perfect for people who are watching it at home.
- At the start of the video you can see the camera is above the audience and moving this could be multiple ways such as a cable for the camera to run across or it could be a crane moving over the audience this shows the location is very big allowing this to be done this goes by the constraints of location starting at 0:00 - 0:07 you can see that it clearly goes over the audiences head, this allows the audience to see how big the actual location is and gives you a nice little introduction, this would most likely been done by a cable a camera can run on above the crowds heads, we would not be able to get a shot like this with a single camera because if there was only one camera you wouldn't get to see the performance because the camera would just be dangling over the audience from a distance not giving the viewers full coverage of the performance
- As it is live you would need to use multiple cameras to catch everything such as the performers from different angles when they are walking around and including the audience where they are waving their hands around enjoying the music for example at 14:20 you can see Eminem moving from one side of the stage to the other but during this time it cuts to a different angle of close ups of him such as at 14:31 this allows you to continue watching the artist and always see him face on where as if you had one camera following him his back might be facing towards you because of him walking to one side of the stage to the other this allows Coverage of the Action

Aesthetic Reason
- When you have two of the biggest artists on stage you want to see them closer but if you was in the crowd you wouldn't be as close as you would if you was watching it because you get close ups of the artists facial expressions communicating with the viewer show at 12:02 where you can see Eminem right up close because of the angles of the camera, if you was in the crowd you wouldn't be able to move around freely and this would stop you from seeing the artists up close, but because of the multi-cameras this becomes available for the people at home who are watching, you get to see the artists facial expressions much more clearly than standing all the way at the back of the crowd where you most likely wont even see them properly.
- At the concert you can see many cuts and pans in the video, this allows for variety for the audience and get the true feel of the concert and because you get a lot of shots from the event it makes you feel like you are actually there maintaining viewer interest such as 20:05 you can see the camera following Eminem but than at 20:07 you can see the whole crowd and this shot makes you feel like you are actually a part of the crowd standing right there and this keeps the viewers watching because they feel like they are actually there bonding with the event.

Public Event
The Wedding of Prince William and Katherine Middleton - Live Public Event

Practical Reason
- Large area as there is a lot of movement from place to place, impossible for one camera to capture everything  because of the constraints of the location environment and there is a lot of people around so multi camera is needed here, cameras were most likely allocated at different places so they could keep it live without having to move the camera a lot for example at 13:31 a person carrying a camera would not be able to keep up with the car so this is why they use multi camera because they can allocate different cameras at different locations
- This was live because it was an important event so therefore they needed multi camera to capture all the action because if you had one camera you might as well of just went to the event in person cause the camera wouldn't cover everything as the area is very large this is why they had multiple cameras so they could keep the
coverage of action they even had a helicopter flying over just so they could keep the coverage of the action going 16:54

Aesthetic Reason
- From watching the video you can see that there are thousands and thousands of people at this major event because it is a royal wedding, with all those people there we can sense how important this day is by them just standing there communicating the meaning to the viewers how important the day is shown at 2:58:00
- Because there are multiple cameras this allows the viewers at home to see more of whats going on than if there was a single camera, this is because a single camera would not be able to get into all the places and get the same shots as of the multi-camera also it is better to have the multi camera because if you was in the crowd you wouldn't be able to see everything as you would be stuck in one place where as on TV cause of the cameras the audience at home can see everything that is happening which maintains the viewers interest also where the public isn't allowed to be you can see it on the TV shown at 1:44:0
Magazine Shows

Top Gear: Best of Series 8 - Ep6 - BBC
Practical Reason
Because they are always moving due to them being in cars all the time which you can see at 17:13, you want to get different angles of them driving and because when they get past the first camera that would be the only shot you would have because of one camera, but because of multi-camera you can capture all of it because they set off cameras in different locations on the course where they are driving because of the Constraints of the Location are so large allowing them to set up in different locations where they drive by they can capture all the footage, again shown at 17:16 same location but a different angle this truly shows how big this location is and the multi-camera is most needed here.
- At 21:06 you can see that the cameras are focused on three things two cameras focused on each person and one camera focused on the whole stage, Simultaneous recording coverage is good here because having multiple cameras you can record each person as it goes to capture everything that is going on, if someone begins to speak you cut to the camera that has the coverage of them speaking, this is helpful because if there was one camera and each person spoke the camera would have to keep moving to the person who spoke, with multi-camera this allows you to swiftly cut to the person who speaks without it being a problem, this is also easier on the people who watch this on TV because if you had one camera which kept moving or stayed fixed in one position you would get bored very easily. It allows them to be more spontaneous because if something unplanned was said the cameras could cut straight to them.

Aesthetic Reason
- When each person speaks you want the camera to be on them, this is allows the the viewers to be more interested in what is going on and Communicates with the viewer because you understand what is actually happening rather than having a camera focus on one person and you do not see the other person who is speaking, show at 33:13 - 35:23 you can see every time someone speaks it cuts to that person, this keeps the audience understand what is happening and more eye pleasing as you can see the person who is speaking.
- Because in this show they are always driving and moving around it Maintains Viewers Interest by taking them and showing them what is going on such as 20:24 where you can see the different angles and shots that are used, you can see the car he is driving around you can see him inside driving it, it just simply allows you to see everything that is going on which is what the audience want to see the quick cutting show at 20:24+ keeps the audience watching because the cuts are so frequent you want to see what is happening and what is going on, this is due to multiple cameras set up giving us different angles of what is happening

Talent Shows

Jeremy Lynch on Britain's Got Talent 2008
Practical Reason
- A practical reason would be because the stage is very large and he is juggling a ball, he will be moving a lot so they need to keep
coverage of action this means you will still be focused on what is going on due to multiple cameras, show at 1:22 you can see that the stage is rather large compared to him.
- A practical would be because the show is as live they need to have Multi-camera simultaneous to record it live as they need to catch every single detail which is going on and to also get the reactions of the judges if they see something wrong or good, such as at 1:57 you wouldn't of been able to see that if there was only one camera because at this point you see Simon Cowell and Jeremy with a swift cut between them, this would only of been capable with multi camera because if you had one camera you would only be able to pan between the two because you cant stop recording and focus on the judge than the contester because you would miss footage, but with Simultaneous recording you can see both at the same time because it is as live recording.

Aesthetic Reason
- In this show there are many cuts and different shots, this Maintains the viewer Interest shown at 2:23 - 2:30 you can see about 6 cuts this means there is nearly a cut every second this means this stops the viewers from getting bored from just seeing one shot and this is good because having multi camera allows this because you can get all the shots because different cameras are focusing on different things, you would not be able to do this with one camera because with one camera you would not be able to focus on the different focus points because the camera would have to keep moving and panning as such which would become annoying for the viewers watching because you wouldn't actually get to see the judges reactions and watch the performance properly.
- At 2:37 you can see that the judges are clapping and with the audience behind them this communicates the meaning to the viewers by the reactions of the crowd and judges, this makes the audience feel and show that the contestant done a very good job also show at 2:46 you can see the judges thought he done a good job, this is shown by his facial expression.
